The driver's door control module didn't know if it was Arthur or Martha. I suspect it lost it's brain when the dealer most likely disconnected it. Recoding it back to something that made sense made all of the problems go away (ie. told it you are a door controller, not a door stop!). Why the indicator light originally stopped working is a mystery.

Have a look on the elements in the rear window and look for any damage, they are really thin and fragile so if you have knocked them while loading/unloading you may have damaged them, likewise if you have had any stickers etc on there you may have damaged it as well.

Wed 2 Oct 2013 12:31. VW Golf Mk4 - Temperature Gauge Failure - skidpan. On an old car its probably just an intermittent wiring fault. Check the wiring on the sender for starters, after many years in a hot environment the cables can go brittle. If there is water in the car a non-working temp gauge will not cause a breakdown.

No, not quite the same, but recently the (heated) electric mirros on my 2000 GTi started behaving wierdly - if you select the left mirror then the joystick moves both mirrors together (in, out, rotate up, rotate down). If you select the right mirror then only this mirror is controlled.
1. There is a separate fuse and a separate relay. You'll need to check both, and I hope the relay panel is a little easier to get to than it is on the MKIII, because that's a real treat. Check the fuses first, but a fuse isn't a wear item.
